A Court of Mist and Fury

Date read: July 15, 2021 – July 21, 2021

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Series: A Court of Thorns and Roses #2

Continuing my binge read leading up to the new book. This is where we find out that Tamlin is really a tool and we start falling for Rhys and find out what a great guy he really is. I’m way more excited for this one than the reread of the first one. Well I guess I should start reading.

First page of chapter one and already Tamlin is an asshole. She’s having nightmares and waking up to puke her guts up and what does he do. That’s right the jerkface sleeps through it all.

Oh this bitch. Ianthe. I think I blocked her out because other than knowing she a bitch I couldn’t tell you anything she did. Also, I think I wished for her death but I think she’s still alive.

Ok maybe I can’t handle this book. Omg Tamlin is an utter assbutt. No such thing as a high lady my ass. Grr. I don’t know if I’m gonna survive this book. It’s only chapter two and I’m already worked up about the tool.

That bitch. Her one request was no red flowers and what do you do. You bitch that you are scatter red petals within the white to look like blood. At least Rhys is listening and comes to save her.

Lol I can’t remember who said that but yeah that could have gone better. I mean she threw her shoes at his head.

Oh yes because she’ll be able to learn to read in a week. Good grief. High expectations much.

I can’t remember how but I think that’s important that the wraith won’t forget her kindness. I wish I could remember what she does in return.

And where Tamlin really shows he’s a bastard. Seriously. This is where you lost her. You just locked her away in your home. You trapped her and pushed her away.

Oh yes I forgot we stop mentioning the tool’s name and just refer to him as he.

And this is why Rhys is soooo much better for her. He went and woke her up from her nightmare and held her hair and stayed with her while she vomited. It also helps that they have a bond and he saw what she saw so she doesn’t have to talk about it. He shares his nightmares with her though.

Oh yes. This “test” where she goes to retrieve her own wedding ring. I think it belonged to Rhys’ mom.

We can’t forget that wingspan matters.

My sweet dark cinnamon roll all hurting and passed out. I can’t right now.

The Suriel is very like Rowan. Dropping those major tidbits with such calm casualness. Yep the Suriel just told her that Rhys is her mate.

And we pretty much just dumped him in the mud. She’ll come around Rhys just give her some time.

Yes. His plan is totally for you to be high lady. I’m like squealing. In the lunchroom at work so I may need to tone it down.

Go get her right now. Lol yeah Amren you tell that silly high lord what he needs.

Ok like the last two chapters of this one are my favorite. We’ve set up the Tool’s downfall and started the war with Hybern.

A Court of Thorns and Roses

Date read: July 10, 2021 – July 13, 2021

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Series: A Court of Thorns and Roses #1

The next book in this series just came out. Beth read it last week while I was visiting and said a refresher would be good before reading the new one. Here we go back to the beginning. Feyre kills a wolf in the woods and a beast comes and demands retribution. Tamlin the tool, sorry if you haven’t read the other books stop right her so I don’t ruin anything for you. Then we go under the mountain to break his curse.

Oh Feyre, you make excuses for your sisters but really they are kinda bitchy and self centered. That and your dad has completely checked out.

Ugh. This is so slow. I want to get to under the mountain. It gets way more exciting there.

Wow Tamlin, so elegant in your compliments. “Your hair is clean.”

The Suriel is definitely your girl. You should totally go find her and capture her. Don’t listen to grumpy Lucien.

No no no. Feyre, there will be no butterflies or catching of feelings. Tamlin is a tool and the Suriel just said to stay with the high lord. She didn’t say it had to be the tool.

Lol. Feyre made a joke.

Yes girl. You need to pay attention to warning signs like that. The fact that you are surprised he informed you of his well being is a red flag.

She looks positively Fae. Foreshadowing much there Sarah.

Yes tool. Grovel before the greatest high lord. Lower you jerkface. Hahaha.

Aww Nesta. You may come across as a stuck up bitch but you do actually care somewhere deep down inside.

But really how else to prove to Tamlin that you didn’t do any additional touching. I love Rhys.

And now Rhys knows. I think deep down he knew that she was important to him. But this moment here is when the bond snaps in place.

Grr. That is not your home and he is not your love. Ok after reading the next books this one is really frustrating. Anyway I finished and can move on to more Rhys.

The Bombshell Effect

Date read: July 8, 2021 – July 9, 2021

Author: Karla Sorensen

Series: Washington Wolves #1

Our girl is being a kind neighbor and bakes the single dad and little girl who just moved in next door cupcakes. The dad in question wants nothing to do with her and is very ungrateful. She was actually only in town for the dispersal of her fathers will. Well her father left her a football team. Guess who the prima donna quarterback is. Of course. It’s the grouchy neighbor. Well let’s go.

I liked that one. It had humor and the tension between them with a big romantic gesture at the end. I do wish we had gotten to know her dad a bit more or at least get him to understand what her life had been like with her dad. Overall though it was a good read.

Series: Lords of the Underworld #4.5

We have Lysander, I’m not sure what he is, is going to fall hard for our new harpy friend Bianka. Let’s go.

Hold up, hold up, hold up. Aeron broke a heavenly rule. Is that why the Angel chick has been watching him?

Well that was fun. I like that now it seems like all the harpies are going to find their consorts. Even though I know Taliyah doesn’t find hers for sometime. I also feel like I’d be missing a whole lot of back story for the next book if I hadn’t read this one.

The Darkest Whisper

Date read: July 3, 2021 – July 6, 2021

Author: Gena Showalter

Series: Lords of the Underworld #4

Next in the Lords of the Underworld. It is Sabin’s turn. He holds the demon doubt and destroys even the most confident lovers. So instead of spending time in the bedroom he spends his time on the battlefield. Until he meets Gwen the timid. She’s apparently an immortal too and always thought she’d fall for a human who wouldn’t rouse her dark side.

That’s what sets your harpy off? Not the battle or the bullet wound but that your pretty new shirt was ruined. Ok girl you do you.

Oh you’ve done it now Sabin. If Gwen doesn’t kill you her sisters will. You just bound her wings and threw her in the dungeon.

I liked meeting the harpies. This one was pretty good. We found out her father is Galen and that the Hunters have been breeding and training immortal children to fight for them. Hopefully we can unbrainwash them and they’ll help the lords. We still don’t know why Galen hates the lords so much other than Lucien was picked to lead instead of him which seems a bit too petty. Next we have another novella.

The Fiery Cross

Date read: November 10, 2019 – July 2, 2021

Author: Diana Gabaldon

Series: Outlander #5

Now that I’ve passed my CPA exams I’m getting back to this series. Also, season five is about to start and I want to read the book before watching it. It’s 1771 and everyone is in the past. The back of the book talks about the war that’s coming (they live in America now). I’m not sure if we’ll actually get to the war but the book is pretty long so who knows.

Well that was depressing. I don’t know if we had met Abel in a previous book, but it’s so sad. He lost his wife because he was trying to gain the coin he needed to pay his taxes. On top of that they had already lost all their children who didn’t even live to a year.

Well that was an emotional roller coaster of a chapter. Frank put the grave stone in the Kirk yard in Scotland. Jaime isn’t actually buried there. Also he knew Jaime survived Culloden, but didn’t tell Claire. Then we talk through some of the rape and Roger’s fears and reluctances around Bree and them getting married. He doesn’t want her to leave him or choose a bairn over him.

I had a crazy thought. If Frank knew when and where Jaime died to put up the gravestone did he also know when Claire will die?

That was epic. I loved that. Jocasta just totally insulted Roger, implying that he was just marrying Bree for her money. So, instead of leaving her estates to Bree, Jocasta decided to leave them to Jemmy, Bree’s son. Also, if anything happened to the child Roger and Bree wouldn’t see a penny. He just told her off that he nor his wife wanted her money and there was no way his son was going to have it. She could shove it. Ha ha ha. That was awesome.

I’m 150 pages in and we are still in the same day we started at. We aren’t even to the weddings that take place that evening. I’m starting to think we may not get very much closer to the revolution at this rate. It’s like she’s got to make up for the book where she skipped twenty years that were really only addressed in flashbacks.

Aww. I think they need to talk to each other. I think if they did she’d be able to climax with him again. Roger also has some hesitations about their relationship too. It would do them good.

Jaime you can’t die. That’s not allowed so you shouldn’t even be talking like you might. Also you know if you die Claire will follow you. And this takes us to the end of part two.

That was a mess. That lady was crazy. Her husband was abusive, but still keeping him somewhat alive so he could die slowly. That’s just awful. Then Jaime put the man down and he and Claire buried him. Jaime also wants to know if his da suffered like that before he died.

Well that was crazy. They ride up to what I hesitate to call a town, and they get shot at, but no one is hit. Roger is bravely trying to figure out what to do. I think he should have the guy marry the local guy’s daughter that he disgraced.

I didn’t see that coming. I thought they would have kept the bairn. Claire said no though when Jaime offered to adopt it for her.

Lordy, no one has noticed that Ally left with Morton. I wonder where they will go and what he’ll do about his other wife? This ended the section so I wonder if we’ll even get to find out her family’s reaction or if we just skip that bit.

Oh I can’t breathe. Lol. She collected his sperm and is looking at it through a microscope. I’m dying.

I’m dying. Jaimes thoughts about his sperm now that he knows what they look like. I can’t right now.

Well that didn’t give me warm fuzzies. I’m not sure about him taking her wedding rings as his stakes in a game of whist.

He didn’t say he went in. I’m not sure her visitor was Jaime, but if he was pacing the hall who could it have been.

Why would anyone kill a slave. I’m not quite sure what’s going on. Also, what is Stephen Bonnet doing at Jocasta’s.

I hate Stephen Bonnet, but that’s gonna have to sit on the side for a bit. Jaime is getting called to war by lord Tryon. Claire is pissed. I love her language.

That’s so eerie. Brianna was singing Loch Lomond and guess what was playing on my Pandora station when I read that? You guessed it Loch Lomond. That’s creepy.

I’m surprised they didn’t tear Roger apart. I’m not sure what Jaime thought to gain by sending Roger over there to get Husband.

Lol Roger what were you thinking kissing her. You should just be glad Bree didn’t find you. She would castrate you.

Is that where turn coat came from? If you were taken prisoner they’d turn your coat inside out meaning you’ve been caught by the enemy. Huh the things you learn.

Claire and Bree are going to kill you if you let Roger die. I mean I’m fairly certain we don’t kill him yet. I think he’s in some of the other books and this isn’t a paranormal series so no rising from the dead.

Ok really no one in the governor’s camp knew Roger and could help him out. He was just hung. Some woman ran to save him, I think Bree but not really sure. I’m pretty sure he didn’t die.

Bree is going to make me cry with her dreams. She doesn’t want anything from her own time. She just wants Roger to be able to talk to her again. Aww.

Aww. I really want Roger to get better soon. He’s breaking my heart with how Bree feels.

We don’t think they’re demons. They live terribly. No self respecting demon would live that way. Lol.

They have quite the pair of horses. Hers freaks out over thunder and lightning and his hates to be behind anyone. What a great combination in this storm.

Poor Judas to die from a lightening strike, but Jaime has another fluke bear kill to his name. I hope Roger finds his way home ok.

Roger made it back home alright. I’m not sure how he did it or if he has the survey stuff done, but he made it home.

This is a lot of Roger chapters. I think I like the Claire chapters better. Although Jaime’s been bit by a snake and is sort of dying right now and their philosophical conversation is kinda funny. Also Roger telling Jaime he isn’t going to die. He knows Bree and Claire wouldn’t forgive him.

Lol Jamie being all gruff and adamant that he’ll live and Claire can’t take his leg even though he’s been bit by a snake. Then while tending him a buffalo appears in their yard and Bree, Marsali and Claire kill it.

Awww is Bree trying to get pregnant again. This time on purpose?

I love their banter. Claire and Jamie are my couple goals. That was super cute. He’s helping her read this passage in Latin and they keep reading each other. It’s just too much, I love it.

You might as well call another boat so we don’t all drown together. Lol poor Jamie and his seasickness.

Aww Ian came back. Isn’t that nice. Or what happened that he came back?

Oh well maybe not as happy. Jamie said he’s back for good but doesn’t have his wife or child with him. That makes me think that they’ve died.

Lol well young Ian has discovered that his auntie Claire isn’t a fairy but a time traveler. He found the journal of another time traveler who may have gone to live with the Mohawk.

Could we have made that any more awkward? Claire was teaching about genetics now we are explaining balls to young Jemmy. I’m about dying of laughter from everyone’s embarrassment.

Ok so that took me a bit to get through but I did enjoy it. It’s just long and a lot happens. I did wish we had a bit more closure with Bonnet. If past is prelude then he might not be dead just castrated or marred in some way and come back again. We discovered that Jemmy can travel through the stones, but Roger and Bree are going to stay and not go back. We are still in the quiet before the storm that is the American revolution. Also we didn’t find out what the deal was about the fire and if Jamie and Claire really die in it or are just suspected to be dead. I guess I’ll have to keep reading the series lol. I didn’t bring it with me on this trip so that’s for later.

Author: Sierra Hill

Series: Courting Love #1

So our guy is the star basketball player who always gets what and who he wants. Until he meets Ainsley. She doesn’t play games but he’s pulling out all the stops to make her his.

Wow dude. The fact that she’s mad at you and about to like attack you is turning you on right now? I don’t think this is a good time for that man.

Oh poor girl. His grandson is gonna be number 23 who you don’t like and are currently mad at.

Of course you want your food to go. You’re such or horny dude. I’m a bit tired of his I’m turned on all the time mindset. Like dude have some self control.

I don’t know how I feel about this one. I think I liked the premise of the story. It did seem to drag on kinda slowly. Then he was like obsessed with himself and getting his dick wet. She was all worried about not being under her moms control anymore either for financial or care reasons and the fact that they were so different. I want to know what happened to her mom and was kinda hoping he’d reconcile with his dad to help her get custody of her sister. The second breakup felt a bit forced or too much and how to really get back on the same page after that. Meh.

Claiming His Need

Date read: June 18, 2021 – June 20, 2021

Author: Ellis Leigh

Series: Feral Breed Motorcycle Club #2

I read the first one in this series back in 2016. So I’m not sure if I remember what happened in that one but here we go with book two. Gates is a legend because of how long he’s survived without a mate. Kaija is the daughter of a neighboring pack’s alpha and the pack princess. Her place in the pack makes her desirable but she’d rather wait for her fated mate. Of course there’s some danger and kidnapping involved somewhere along the way. Let’s go.

Lol. No, no don’t do that don’t cry. I was told nothing could happen to you or you mate was very creative in how he would hurt me.

This was ok. I don’t know it was just sorta alright. I like that she decided to live with the feral breed and leave her pack behind. I’m still a little lost about the group that tried to kidnap her. Meh. I’m not sure I’ll read the next book of the series right now. I may give it a bit first.

Series: Sanctum #1

We’ve got a little girl who starts to have feelings for her daddy’s best friend. I’m not sure about this author. I found her through a giveaway I think or an anthology. I figured I’d give her a try.

I’m not sure this book was for me. Several things. One the writing style was a bit odd so it flowed kinda weird for me. Two the age play was a bit younger than I’m into. I’m just not sure about the diapers. Not my thing. Three the end felt a little sudden. I mean the book was ok and I finished it just not my cup of tea.

Date read: June 8, 2021 – June 13, 2021

Author: Max Monroe

Series: Billionaire Bad Boys #3.7

Alright back to the billionaires and Max Monroe. This is a Christmas novella and is about Georgia. She’s always had horrible Christmases but not this year she’s determined to nail it.

Oh no. I mean I knew this was going to be a disaster from the beginning but wow. First her parents show up. Now the whole Mavericks football team just showed up at their front door.

That was good. Their novellas seem longer than I think they actually are. Anyway it had a super sweet ending.
