Author: Diana Gabaldon
Series: Outlander #5
Now that I’ve passed my CPA exams I’m getting back to this series. Also, season five is about to start and I want to read the book before watching it. It’s 1771 and everyone is in the past. The back of the book talks about the war that’s coming (they live in America now). I’m not sure if we’ll actually get to the war but the book is pretty long so who knows.
Well that was depressing. I don’t know if we had met Abel in a previous book, but it’s so sad. He lost his wife because he was trying to gain the coin he needed to pay his taxes. On top of that they had already lost all their children who didn’t even live to a year.
Well that was an emotional roller coaster of a chapter. Frank put the grave stone in the Kirk yard in Scotland. Jaime isn’t actually buried there. Also he knew Jaime survived Culloden, but didn’t tell Claire. Then we talk through some of the rape and Roger’s fears and reluctances around Bree and them getting married. He doesn’t want her to leave him or choose a bairn over him.
I had a crazy thought. If Frank knew when and where Jaime died to put up the gravestone did he also know when Claire will die?
That was epic. I loved that. Jocasta just totally insulted Roger, implying that he was just marrying Bree for her money. So, instead of leaving her estates to Bree, Jocasta decided to leave them to Jemmy, Bree’s son. Also, if anything happened to the child Roger and Bree wouldn’t see a penny. He just told her off that he nor his wife wanted her money and there was no way his son was going to have it. She could shove it. Ha ha ha. That was awesome.
I’m 150 pages in and we are still in the same day we started at. We aren’t even to the weddings that take place that evening. I’m starting to think we may not get very much closer to the revolution at this rate. It’s like she’s got to make up for the book where she skipped twenty years that were really only addressed in flashbacks.
Aww. I think they need to talk to each other. I think if they did she’d be able to climax with him again. Roger also has some hesitations about their relationship too. It would do them good.
Jaime you can’t die. That’s not allowed so you shouldn’t even be talking like you might. Also you know if you die Claire will follow you. And this takes us to the end of part two.
That was a mess. That lady was crazy. Her husband was abusive, but still keeping him somewhat alive so he could die slowly. That’s just awful. Then Jaime put the man down and he and Claire buried him. Jaime also wants to know if his da suffered like that before he died.
Well that was crazy. They ride up to what I hesitate to call a town, and they get shot at, but no one is hit. Roger is bravely trying to figure out what to do. I think he should have the guy marry the local guy’s daughter that he disgraced.
I didn’t see that coming. I thought they would have kept the bairn. Claire said no though when Jaime offered to adopt it for her.
Lordy, no one has noticed that Ally left with Morton. I wonder where they will go and what he’ll do about his other wife? This ended the section so I wonder if we’ll even get to find out her family’s reaction or if we just skip that bit.
Oh I can’t breathe. Lol. She collected his sperm and is looking at it through a microscope. I’m dying.
I’m dying. Jaimes thoughts about his sperm now that he knows what they look like. I can’t right now.
Well that didn’t give me warm fuzzies. I’m not sure about him taking her wedding rings as his stakes in a game of whist.
He didn’t say he went in. I’m not sure her visitor was Jaime, but if he was pacing the hall who could it have been.
Why would anyone kill a slave. I’m not quite sure what’s going on. Also, what is Stephen Bonnet doing at Jocasta’s.
I hate Stephen Bonnet, but that’s gonna have to sit on the side for a bit. Jaime is getting called to war by lord Tryon. Claire is pissed. I love her language.
That’s so eerie. Brianna was singing Loch Lomond and guess what was playing on my Pandora station when I read that? You guessed it Loch Lomond. That’s creepy.
I’m surprised they didn’t tear Roger apart. I’m not sure what Jaime thought to gain by sending Roger over there to get Husband.
Lol Roger what were you thinking kissing her. You should just be glad Bree didn’t find you. She would castrate you.
Is that where turn coat came from? If you were taken prisoner they’d turn your coat inside out meaning you’ve been caught by the enemy. Huh the things you learn.
Claire and Bree are going to kill you if you let Roger die. I mean I’m fairly certain we don’t kill him yet. I think he’s in some of the other books and this isn’t a paranormal series so no rising from the dead.
Ok really no one in the governor’s camp knew Roger and could help him out. He was just hung. Some woman ran to save him, I think Bree but not really sure. I’m pretty sure he didn’t die.
Bree is going to make me cry with her dreams. She doesn’t want anything from her own time. She just wants Roger to be able to talk to her again. Aww.
Aww. I really want Roger to get better soon. He’s breaking my heart with how Bree feels.
We don’t think they’re demons. They live terribly. No self respecting demon would live that way. Lol.
They have quite the pair of horses. Hers freaks out over thunder and lightning and his hates to be behind anyone. What a great combination in this storm.
Poor Judas to die from a lightening strike, but Jaime has another fluke bear kill to his name. I hope Roger finds his way home ok.
Roger made it back home alright. I’m not sure how he did it or if he has the survey stuff done, but he made it home.
This is a lot of Roger chapters. I think I like the Claire chapters better. Although Jaime’s been bit by a snake and is sort of dying right now and their philosophical conversation is kinda funny. Also Roger telling Jaime he isn’t going to die. He knows Bree and Claire wouldn’t forgive him.
Lol Jamie being all gruff and adamant that he’ll live and Claire can’t take his leg even though he’s been bit by a snake. Then while tending him a buffalo appears in their yard and Bree, Marsali and Claire kill it.
Awww is Bree trying to get pregnant again. This time on purpose?
I love their banter. Claire and Jamie are my couple goals. That was super cute. He’s helping her read this passage in Latin and they keep reading each other. It’s just too much, I love it.
You might as well call another boat so we don’t all drown together. Lol poor Jamie and his seasickness.
Aww Ian came back. Isn’t that nice. Or what happened that he came back?
Oh well maybe not as happy. Jamie said he’s back for good but doesn’t have his wife or child with him. That makes me think that they’ve died.
Lol well young Ian has discovered that his auntie Claire isn’t a fairy but a time traveler. He found the journal of another time traveler who may have gone to live with the Mohawk.
Could we have made that any more awkward? Claire was teaching about genetics now we are explaining balls to young Jemmy. I’m about dying of laughter from everyone’s embarrassment.
Ok so that took me a bit to get through but I did enjoy it. It’s just long and a lot happens. I did wish we had a bit more closure with Bonnet. If past is prelude then he might not be dead just castrated or marred in some way and come back again. We discovered that Jemmy can travel through the stones, but Roger and Bree are going to stay and not go back. We are still in the quiet before the storm that is the American revolution. Also we didn’t find out what the deal was about the fire and if Jamie and Claire really die in it or are just suspected to be dead. I guess I’ll have to keep reading the series lol. I didn’t bring it with me on this trip so that’s for later.
