Officer Big Daddy

Date read: September 18, 2021

Author: M.C. Cerny

This one doesn’t have a description. I’ve read some others by this author. It should be a quick read.

Meh. I mean it was quick. Her boyfriend was scum. Set her up really to take the fall for him. She got arrested and treated very much not like anyone who gets arrested ever would be treated. The officer takes her to his home and makes her his little girl and he’s big daddy. It didn’t exactly flow well and felt like parts were missing.

Challenge

Date read: September 14, 2021 – September 18, 2021

Author: Amy Daws

Series: Harris Brothers #1

Camden is the hot soccer player laid up in the hospital with a busted knee. He’s also kinda a player. Well his injury may keep him from playing that field but he’ll still try to play her field. He thinks the cute doctor will be a nice distraction from his troubles. Indie has always been bookish but has a plan to remedy that and Camden may be the man for the job, until feelings get involved on both sides.

Ok this is a bit slow. How many times are we going to go back and forth on whether or not they’re gonna sleep together? We haven’t even gotten to his first surgery yet. Good grief.

They run so hot and cold and so quickly. I can’t keep up if we are on again or off again. I think she just lied about what she really wanted because she’s scared and still technically his doctor.

Of course it’s not going to go well. Your dad is gonna flip his shit.

I’m not sure about this one. I liked the end but the begging dragged on also in the middle it felt like we were on repeat. I’m not sure. I have two more in the series but I may wait a bit to read them.

Elite Starfighter

Date read: September 12, 2021 – September 13, 2021

Author: Grace Goodwin

Series: Starfighter Training Academy #3

The last one in this trilogy. This is the third of the friends. Both of her friends playing this game have vanished. So she’s gonna defeat the game and find out what happened to them. It doesn’t tell me much about her guy.

Um ok we skip beating the game and go straight to Darius being confused how she was prepared for him and wanted to go without delay.

Hmm. I’m not sure about putting your own books in another of your books. Seems a bit narcissistic to me.

This was my least favorite of the trilogy. Like she was super reserved when she first met him but ready to go. Then she just suddenly like jumped him. I couldn’t quite follow her personality. I did like his protectiveness of her because of what happened to his brother. I wish we learned more about that mission and what went wrong. Also, there for a bit seemed like someone was a bit pissed that he survived and his brother died, but then we don’t know who or why. I thought like lover or friend that blamed Darius, but that didn’t happen. Then the end was weird as was the epilogue. Like what was that scene with bitch queen picking a man for her bed and talking about her losses. I didn’t really care for this one.

Starfighter Command

Date read: September 11, 2021 – September 12, 2021

Author: Grace Goodwin

Series: Starfighter Training Academy #2

Next one in the starfighter trilogy. The next friend completes the game and gets taken to the Vega system to help beat queen Raya. Only she finds out her partner hacked the system and shouldn’t have been her partner. Let’s go.

I feel like I missed something. I don’t remember Jamie being captured by Queen Raya in the first book. Oh wait yes it’s coming back. Alex used his undercover identity and took her aboard the ship as a prisoner.

Oh that’s not good. What did Sponder do to your ship?

Oh come on be realistic. He’s not gonna send a shuttle to save you. He’s gonna let both of you die.

Duh. Told ya so.

Well that was good. I liked the epilogue where they were on the surface and she finds out she’s famous. Also the little girls looking up to her. I wish she wanted kids but to each their own.

Feisty Heroines

Date read: February 28, 2021 – September 11, 2021

Author: Various

Another collection of short stories. This time focused on the heroines. I’ll go the same way as the last one and add each story after I’m done with it.

Angel Watcher: that is a very interesting premise. I want to know more. Maybe that’s part of a series. It’s is part of a series and I think some of the people and events would have made more sense of I’d read those first. Even with that I liked this one.

Dragon Rules: this was surprisingly well written for only being three chapters. I liked this one. I think it gave enough background so you got the idea and kept things quick and moving.

Moon Magic: god that was sad. Also I’m not sure that I liked that one. It was sad and weird and I didn’t like that we had to use magic to change events instead of accepting what happens.

Within the Shadows: her ex was a dick. Selling his own daughter. I’m glad she found Brandon and is getting in touch with that group going against the evil doctor dude.

Dawn of a New Era: that was actually really good. I liked the Scottish vampires. Also, the story was well developed even though it was so short. I now need to find out if it’s part of a larger series.

Banshee Kiss: hmm. I didn’t really like this one. The descriptions were weird. I mean it was sort of cleared up right there at the end, but I was still confused about what was going on.

Lost in a Lie: what?! What was that? How is that an ending. Well that’s shit. We don’t know if she moves to Georgia permanently or if she forgives Jax. Or the results of the dna test. Oh that’s another thing why all the background checks and snooping when you could have just tested their dna? Hmm it was all ok until it ended. Grr.

Combustion: hmm. I’m not sure about this one. I mean it was fine but I would have liked a bit more detail. I think. There were some parts where it felt like it dragged even though it was so short.

Whiskey Love: that was weird. It was more about her grandmother than her. It could have been longer but was pretty much like grandma was telling a story to teach you a lesson. Meh.

Powerful Things: that was pretty good. She was protesting the expansion of the parking lot because it would be at the cost of the tree. Which she wished on to find love. She found it by the end and saved the park.

Redemption: I didn’t enjoy some of the time jumps. It made it jerky, but I liked the overall story. I’m glad her psychic abilities were able to save those kids and that she’ll now get paid to do it.

Good Bones: that was weird. I’m not really sure I liked this one.

Keep the Light: that was weird. I didn’t really like it.

Rescuing Lord Faulkner: hmm. This one was alright. I like that the uncle was like crazy and drove her away but that he found her and they still got together. Also, go her for being the one to save him.

To Rescue My Princess: I liked this one. She was captured by Edward for helping the Bruce and put in a cage off the side of a castle. Her childhood crush comes back from making his fortune and rescues her. They’re gonna live happily ever after.

The Right Knight: first, I’m not sure that author could have used perchance any more than she did. It was excessive for a regular book let alone a novella. Ok now the story itself was good. A bit more resistance from the cousin would have been nice before he capitulated and let them go off to fulfill the kings order to wed and lead Roxley.

Destiny’s Way: ok I liked this one. Her brother tried to steal from him to get her away from their evil uncle. He forgives them. Then the brother protects her from the uncle and gets hurt pretty bad. She takes him to her dashing knight to protect and help them. They go away but the uncle follows them. She kills the uncle which good riddance. Then once they all get a bit better they admit their love and decide to spend their lives together.

Forever Equals: I liked this one. I would read a full length novel of this one. I liked that she wore britches and essentially taught herself to sword fight. Then jerkface got what he deserved. I’m glad she forgave Gray and agreed to marry him.

The Dragon Assassins Sunstryker: this had a bit of a slow start but I enjoyed this one. I wonder how his brother knew she’d be his soulmate.

Fated Match: that needed to be a much longer book. I didn’t fully understand the world or how magic there worked. Then I feel unresolved with the big deal we made about her mate being a Blackwood and the leader of the witch coven being like way threatened by Sandy. I don’t know. It’s really hard to build all that in a short story though.

Alerian’s War: I’m not quite sure what was going on there. It seemed a bit religious but I’m not really sure. I know we killed her dad and what’s his faces brother but I didn’t understand the flooding and having to go to another world I think. I don’t know.

Matchmakers Mission: that was weird. Like I’m not sure what just happened. Moving on then.

With His Life: hmm. I don’t know about this one. I mean I liked the shifters but not sure about her killing the human.

Just One Last Chance: I mean it’s kinda sweet he did all that to get her back. Also, though maybe kind of creepy. The ending though was a bit strange. Like did she really want him back and did she really take him back. I feel like it was just a lot of filler and not much substance.

Spencer: Bad Boy Cage Fighter: that was not what I thought it would be. I thought it be about his fight not mob wars and mob daughters.

A Matter of Trust: This wasn’t my favorite. That’s probably because it focused more on her anger and the autism stuff rather than the romance and her relationship with the sexy cop.

Trisha’s Dream: hmm. Ok. I guess I liked that one. I think he was young and kinda a dick getting with that bitchy girl. I’m not exactly sure what he did to redeem himself in her eyes but whatever. She’s happy.

Deja Vu on the Seas: what the fuck was that. That made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Falling for Nora: that was pretty good. I liked the subtle fifty shades reference. I enjoyed this one.

Turning Up the Heat: meh that was ok. I’m not sure any shelter would do that to determine who gets to adopt the dog though. I don’t know.

Beautiful Chaos: ok that was dumb. It was like a prequel cliff hanger bull shit. Ok I think I’ve calmed down. I actually liked that one a lot but it like didn’t answer anything and now I have to read a different series to find out what happens as them but it sounds like they might be side characters and I’ll never be satisfied.

Tournament of Reckoning: um I’m confused. I understand the tournament but like there seemed to be more politics and I’m not sure how exactly that ended. Does she get with Rand? Meh.

Resistance: I feel like I missed something. It looks like this was a prequel so maybe it makes more sense if the series is read first. It was meh and slow.

The Sleeping Viking Beauty: eh. That one wasn’t too bad. I mean kinda predictable and that one chick was a jealous hag. Overall though this one was alright.

Married off to the Dragon: this was ok. They should have just talked to each other though. Then they would have known that they were mates before the battle. It was still well developed for a short story.

Fox Trap: that was weird but like in a good way. I do want to know if she overthrew Maeve though.

One Day Fiance

Date read: September 6, 2021 – September 9, 2021

Author: Lauren Landish

Got this one off a Facebook add too. I seem to be reading a lot of those lately. Anyway in this one our girl tells her neighbor’s mom that she’s his fiancé to manipulate him into helping her. Today is National read a book day and I totally left my book in the car while I came in for lunch. I really want to finish that one but I guess that will wait. So I’ll start this one.

This is bad. Either kindle has updated their algorithm for reading speed or I’m doomed to read this book forever. Normally I’m about an hour to three hours slower than the initial reading time prediction. This initial time says over six hours. Sorry off topic but needed to moan to someone.

Why does this sound like he’s some cat burglar about to steal the whole museum.

Because he is a thief. Is this guy our main guy because right now I’m not so enthralled.

Well that was a drastic change. Good grief guys can be so crude. Like ask a girl to dinner flatter her and you can get pretty much anything. Don’t just say things like that.

I’m not sure about that coffee place. The space deer coffee place. Hmm not sure I’d go there even if I liked coffee.

Ok our guy isn’t exactly a good guy then. He’s totally a thief. I’m not sure about that. I do like them to be law abiding, at least somewhat so.

Omg this is great. He’s leaving to meet with one of his shady contacts and she’s just in his car waiting for him. Lol I’m dying.

That’s the weirdest date ever. She sneaks into his truck. They go to an art exhibit to meet a shady contact, then go to some Mexican restaurant to interrogate some kid to get her computer back only to find some bully took it so we beat him up now we are heading to the pawn shop to get her computer.

I still have four hours left in the book. Of course it won’t be that easy. We just hustled the pawn shop owner but he sold it. We go to her house but she’s on a twenty four hour shift and won’t be back until tomorrow.

His sister stalked his fake fiancé and joined her fan club. So she knows the names of Poppy’s dogs.

Oh that was great. She flipped off his aunt while they were kissing and he was having this revelation about their relationship. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through the three hours left in this book.

Well that’s not good. Detective guy is actually investigating. Of course they waited until they were made aware that the painting was stolen too. Oh and she lied to him.

Lol. I love how she goes straight to we are fleeing the country and she already has a plan.

Well this became a cluster. I totally should have guessed that’s where this was going but it’s a total testament to the author’s skill that I thought it was a con. Omg I don’t know if I can stop now.

Ok that was really good. I enjoyed it a lot. I’m really not sure what else to say. She got her happy ending it kept me laughing and I think I’m going to have to give Lauren Landish more of a chance.

Reckless

Date read: August 27, 2021 – September 6, 2021

Author: Hannah Howell

Series: Highland Brides #3

The last one of the Highland Brides series. Ailis is the heir of her clan and a prize to be bartered by her father. She gets abducted by her clan’s worst enemy, Alexander. Oh not sweet widowed Alex. The rest of that description doesn’t make sense. So I’ll just get started.

I’m confused as to where this falls in the timeline of the other books. I thought it would be after but I’m pretty sure in the others he was a widow and had a daughter which doesn’t seem to be the case.

Lol. You have to go save the wee puppies.

So is she like pregnant now? They’ve been sharing a bed for six weeks and haven’t mentioned her period at all. Does she realize that she’s most likely pregnant.

Good grief. How long have they been there? They shared a bed for six weeks. She stayed out of his bed for a month. Now they’ve shared a bed for another ten weeks. She’s just lucky she didn’t get pregnant sooner.

Go Ailis. She totally just punched him in the face. That was awesome. He deserved it though. That was totally rude.

I’m not sure we can get much worse off than we currently are right now. Ailis is currently hiding in the wall of Malcom’s home, Donald is there visiting, Jaime is with her and is terrified of small dark spaces, oh and she’s giving birth right now. It gets worse, in exchange for his help she’s given Malcom one night with her, so she’s gonna lose Alexander (they’re gonna find a way around it but still). Oh and she just said she hopes Alex’s child has the good sense to know they are surrounded by danger and keeps his mouth shut when he’s born.

I liked the others in this series better. I would have liked him to see his friends while he was figuring out he was in love or at least introduced them to his girl after they got through everything. It was still a good read though. Anyway back to the book I started during lunch yesterday.

Wife to the Marines

Date read: September 4, 2021

Author: Krista Wolf

This was from a Facebook ad. Her friends make her a dating profile, but say she’s interested in having three men. She’s about to delete the profile when three gorgeous marines show their interest. Anyway it sounded interesting.

That felt odd. Like you have three guys over and you leave two out to their own devices while you bang one. Then barely take a breath after he finishes and order him to send in the next one. It just felt really weird.

That was super random. I mean I get that they are marines and it wouldn’t just be sunshine and roses and staying stateside, but there was like no lead up to that.

So here’s my nerdiness. A couple of books recently have mentioned thread count of their sheets. Me being me wants to know if 600 thread count is something to write home about, because pretty much all I know is the higher thread count is the more expensive. Anyway I googled it. According to the sleep foundation (sounds legit) thread counts of 200-600 are your normal ones. Beware those higher than 900 as they could be taking shortcuts to get the count. Long story short thread count is an indicator but it’s also dependent on the quality of the thread used. In this particular book my girl has silk sheets with 600 thread count but according to the sleep foundation, silk sheets are measured in momme not thread count. Ok I’m done now back to reading.

That wasn’t bad. I think that there were a lot of skipped bits that I would have liked to know about. I think her friends didn’t need to be in it. Like the only thing they did was set up her profile and tell her they hated her. Like can we be more supportive or meet the guys and give approval? The rest though was good. Sometimes the chapter transitions took me a bit to catch up to where we were but overall a good read.

The Sassy Submissive

Date read: September 1, 2021 – September 3, 2021

Author: Golden Angel

Series: Stronghold Doms #1

I know I’m jumping around genres right now. This one is contemporary with doms and subs. Our girl wants to get into the lifestyle so try’s out a club as a mistress. She discovers she likes it and so goes to a different club as her true submissive self. Our Dom takes a liking to her.

I enjoyed this one. I think there were things I wanted to know more about. Like the self defense class. Did she actually put it on? Did the subs do ok with the Dommes there? Which of the guys did they beat up? I did like their dynamic though. Also, I liked the club. This was good I may get some others about these Doms.

Say Yes to the Duke

Date read: August 23, 2021 – August 25, 2021

Author: Eloisa James

Series: The Wildes of Lindow Castle #5

I’m going back to some regency. This is the next one in the Wildes of Lindow Castle. Viola is painfully shy and the idea of a London debut is a nightmare. She meets a nice quiet vicar but she catches the attention of a Duke and her reputation is ruined.

Yes all good signs of love. He’s handsome. I wouldn’t have to go to anymore balls and I don’t feel like vomiting in his presence.

Viola, he doesn’t mean it. He’s just a grumpy meany.

Well isn’t that ironic. Little kid mouse who hates meeting people is going to teach our terrified clergyman to be less nervous around the peerage.

Lol I love that he just straight up told her that he’s gonna woo her.

I liked most of this one. There were a few parts that didn’t quite make sense to me. I think my favorite was them hiding in the closet in the vicarage and getting it on while everything was happening in the room their closet was in. I would have like least a bit more of Barty and their families after they were married not just before. Overall though it was a good read.
