This is my Lenten discipline. Beth got me this book back in grad school and I haven’t read it yet. So here we go.
Ooh I liked that “the cult of personality” that really resonated with me.
Ok some of these introvert descriptions seem on the extreme side. I don’t think I’m that far introvert, but a lot of the descriptions I’m like yep that’s me.
That was interesting. I liked the idea that our technology driven world has led us to have shorter attention spans.
Father Rob was talking about lectio divina at the Lenten Friday dinner thing last week, sorry I thought that was sort of kismet that it then came up in my book.
That section was so true. I’ve attended a church like that. The pastor was extroverted and didn’t understand introverts so thought everyone needed to participate in things. He got me to join in so many groups and that was actually part of what pushed me away from that church.
I liked that section about leadership and the qualities of a leader. I agree that society has a very extroverted view of a good leader. Also, the reminder that God doesn’t always choose to bestow his gifts on the obvious person but likes to break the mold.
That was interesting but there were parts that felt like they were more for pastors than lay people like myself.
